Conservation Biology: Foundations, Concepts and Applications (3rd Edition) – eBook PDF

Conservation Biology: Foundations, Concepts and Applications, 3rd Edition, (PDF) provides a comprehensive, up-to-date examination of conservation biology and the many supporting disciplines that include conservation science. In this, the 3rd Edition of the extremely successful Conservation Biology: Foundations, Concepts, and Applications, the authors address their interdisciplinary topic as it must now be practiced and observed in the modern world. Starting with a concise review of the history of conservation, the authors go on to explore the interplay of conservation with genetics, demography, aquatic environments, habitat and landscape, and ecosystem management, and the association of all these disciplines to ethics, law, aquatic environments, and policy. A completely new chapter, The Anthropocene: Conservation in a Human-Dominated Nature, breaks new ground in its exploration of how conservation can be practiced in novel ecosystems, anthropogenic biomes, and urban habitats. The Third Edition includes the popular Points of Engagement discussion questions used in prior editions and includes a new feature: Information Boxes, which concisely recap specific case histories described in the textbook. A concluding chapter provides insight into how to become a conservation professional, in both traditional and non-traditional roles.

The authors, Rachel Lamb and Fred Van Dyke, draw on their expertise as field biologists, consultants to government and industry, wildlife managers, and scholars of environmental law, policy, and advocacy, in addition to their many years of effective teaching experience. Informed by practical knowledge and gained skills, the authors have created a work of remarkable clarity and readability which encompasses both systemic foundations in addition to contemporary developments in the field.

Reviews

“Unparalleled wisdom for living at home on Wonderland Earth, the planet with promise, destined for an abundant life.” — Holmes Rolston, Ph.D. Van

“Conservation Biology: Foundations, Concepts, and Applications 3e will be of benefit to undergraduate and graduate students, in addition to working conservation managers and scientists. This is an amazing resource for faculty, college students, and practitioners both new and experienced to the field.” — Diane Debinski, Ph.D.

“Dyke and Lamb have kept the original textbook’s emphasis on connecting classical ecological and environmental work with updated modern applications and lucid examples. But more prominently, the third edition includes much new material on the human side of conservation, including expanded treatments of economics, policy, and climate change.” — Tim Van Deelen, Ph.D.

“Rachel Lamb  and Fred Van Dyke break new ground in both the breadth and depth of their review and evaluation of this crucially important and swiftly changing field. Any biology student or other reader wishing to have a comprehensive overview and understanding of the difficulties of conservation biology need to look no further – this ebook is your starting point!” — Simon N. Stuart, Ph.D.

“Anyone who teaches, writes or talks and works on Conservation Biology, needs this latest edition of Conservation Biology 3rd edition by Fred Van Dyke and Rachel L. Lamb. This will be helpful to both beginners and experts as well. The authors included almost all vital issues in relation to conservation biology. This is really an outstanding ebook.” — Bidhan Chandra Das, Professor, Ecology Branch, Department of Zoology, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh
